What could be the reason for my PS4 controller’s light flashing blue briefly before the controller shuts off?

anonymous user

I’ve been having this super annoying issue with my PS4 controller lately, and I’m hoping someone here might have some insights. So, here’s the deal: every time I turn on my controller, the light bar flashes blue for just a second before it shuts off completely. It’s really frustrating because I just want to kick back and play some games, but I can’t even get the controller to connect properly.

I’ve tried charging it, of course, thinking it might just be low on battery, but even after a couple of hours plugged in, it does the same thing. The light flickers to blue like it’s trying to connect or something, and then boom—nothing. I’ve tried resetting the controller too by pressing that little button on the back, but still no luck. And it’s not like I’m just going to toss it out because I really love this controller and it’s only a couple of years old.

Now, I’m wondering if this is a common issue that anyone else has faced. Could it be a bigger problem with the Bluetooth connection, or maybe it’s a hardware glitch? I’ve heard some folks mention that it could be a problem with the battery or even some sort of internal wiring issue. Ugh, I really hope it’s not the latter because that sounds like a hassle to fix.

I did some googling, and it seems there are a few different reasons this could be happening. Some people say it might be related to the firmware or something, which honestly sounds a bit complicated. Is there any way to update the controller without a working connection?

Anyway, if anyone has experienced the same flashing blue light deal and managed to fix it, I would really appreciate any advice. I’m open to trying anything at this point, so throw your suggestions my way! Thanks in advance, everyone!

So, about that flashing blue light on your PS4 controller, right? It sounds super frustrating! I’ve seen some people deal with this issue too. It might be a few different things going on, so here are some random thoughts.

First off, have you tried charging it with a different cable or USB port? Sometimes the cable can be the culprit, even if it seems fine. Just a thought!

Also, you mentioned resetting it by pressing that little button on the back—good idea! But sometimes you gotta hold it for a bit longer, like 5-10 seconds. Maybe give that another shot if you haven’t.

As for the Bluetooth connection, I’ve heard some folks say they had luck re-pairing the controller. If you have access to another PS4, try connecting it there and see if it works. If it connects, then maybe something’s off with your original PS4.

Now about that firmware update thing… it’s tricky without a working connection. But if you can somehow connect to a PC or other device, there might be third-party software that could help? But be careful with that, as it could get complicated.

If nothing seems to work, it might indeed be a battery or internal wiring issue. They’re tough to fix unless you’re super handy with electronics. But don’t give up hope yet! There are a lot of people on forums who might have tackled this same problem and found a fix.

Good luck! Hope you get back to gaming soon!

The issue you’re experiencing with your PS4 controller, where the light bar flashes blue only to shut off, is not uncommon among users. It can often be attributed to various factors, with the most prevalent being a drained or malfunctioning battery. Since you mentioned that you’ve already charged it and tried resetting the controller, it’s possible that there could be an internal issue affecting its ability to connect, like a fault in the Bluetooth module or the controller’s internal wiring. Some users have found success by completely discharging the battery and then recharging it, which can sometimes recalibrate it. Given that the controller is relatively new, the likelihood of a significant hardware issue may be lower, but it certainly isn’t ruled out.

If you suspect a firmware-related problem, the best course of action is to connect the controller to your PS4 with a USB cable, which might help in recognizing it for a firmware update. Unfortunately, without a working connection, updating directly becomes challenging. If the above suggestions don’t resolve the issue, consider trying another USB cable—sometimes, the cables can be misleading. As a last resort, if you’re comfortable dismantling the controller, looking into the battery or hardware might bring to light any internal issues. If all else fails, consulting with a professional repair service may be your best bet to salvage your beloved controller.
