I’m having difficulty connecting my AirPods Pro to Ubuntu 22.04. Has anyone experienced similar issues and could provide guidance on how to successfully pair them?

anonymous user

I’m really struggling with connecting my AirPods Pro to Ubuntu 22.04, and it’s driving me a bit crazy. I’ve done some research and tried a few different things, but no luck so far. I’m just hoping that someone out there has faced a similar issue and can share some tips or a step-by-step approach to get these earbuds working.

I’ve been using my AirPods Pro seamlessly with my iPhone, and they sound amazing. So, I thought it would be awesome to use them with my laptop as well, especially since I often listen to music or join video calls when I’m working. But every time I go into Bluetooth settings on Ubuntu, I just can’t get them to pair. They show up, but when I click on ‘Pair’, it keeps saying it’s attempting to connect, and then it fails.

I’ve tried resetting the AirPods by putting them back in the case and holding the setup button until the light flashes, but that doesn’t seem to help either. Also, I’ve checked that my Bluetooth is turned on, and I even tried restarting my laptop. I noticed a couple of threads online talking about potential issues with the Bluetooth manager or audio profiles, but they were pretty technical, and I didn’t want to mess something up.

If anyone has had success in connecting AirPods Pro with Ubuntu 22.04 or knows a workaround, I’d really appreciate it. Like, do I need to install any specific drivers or software? Or is there a command line method that could make this easier? I’m not too tech-savvy, so if you could keep the instructions straightforward, that would be a huge help!

Honestly, I feel like I must be missing something simple here. I’ve heard that some people have great experiences with Bluetooth on Linux while others face issues. So, if anyone has any insights or personal experiences to share, I’d be super grateful! Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. I’m really hoping to get these connected so I can enjoy my music and calls without all the hassle!

AirPods Pro Connection Help for Ubuntu 22.04

Connecting AirPods Pro to Ubuntu 22.04: A Simple Guide

Here’s a step-by-step way to try and get your AirPods Pro connected. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds!

      1. Make Sure Bluetooth is On

First, double-check that your Bluetooth is actually enabled. You can go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure it’s turned on.

      2. Put AirPods in Pairing Mode

Open the lid of your AirPods case (keep the AirPods inside) and press the button on the back until the light starts flashing white. This means they’re in pairing mode!

      3. Use the Command Line (Don’t Panic!)

If the GUI isn’t working, let’s try using the terminal. Open a terminal window (you can usually do this with Ctrl + Alt + T) and type:

sudo apt install pulseaudio pulseaudio-utils pulseaudio-module-bluetooth

Press Enter and let it install. You might need to enter your password.

      4. Restart Bluetooth Service

After that, restart the Bluetooth service by typing:

          sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

      Hit Enter again.

      5. Try Pairing Again

Now go back to the Bluetooth settings and see if your AirPods show up. Click on them and try to pair!

      6. Check Audio Profiles

If it connects but you don’t hear anything, right-click the sound icon in the top right corner, go to Sound Settings, and check your output device. Make sure it’s set to your AirPods.

      Extra Tips

      • If it still doesn’t work, try turning Bluetooth off and on again.
      • Make sure your laptop is close to the AirPods.
      • It could be useful to try reconnecting your AirPods with your iPhone first and then back to the laptop!

Sometimes Linux can be a little tricky with Bluetooth, but don’t lose hope! With a bit of patience, you should be able to get those AirPods working.

If you have any successes (or failures), feel free to share what worked or what didn’t!

Connecting AirPods Pro to Ubuntu 22.04

To successfully connect your AirPods Pro to Ubuntu 22.04, start by ensuring that your Bluetooth is functioning properly. First, open the terminal and execute the following commands to check if the necessary packages are installed:

      sudo apt update
sudo apt install bluez pulseaudio pulseaudio-module-bluetooth

Once the installation is complete, restart your Bluetooth service with:

      sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

Next, put your AirPods in pairing mode (light should flash white), and go to your Ubuntu Bluetooth settings. Click on “Add Device” and select your AirPods Pro from the list. If you encounter pairing issues, you can also try using the command line. Open the terminal again and execute:

      bluetoothctl

Inside the Bluetooth control interface, type the following commands one by one:

      power on
      agent on
      scan on

Keep an eye on the terminal output for your AirPods’ MAC address (something like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX). Once you see it, you can pair and connect by running:

      pair XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
      connect XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

If everything goes well, you should be able to use your AirPods Pro with Ubuntu. In case you encounter any audio playback issues, you might also want to check your audio settings to ensure the AirPods are selected under the sound output section.
