I’m experiencing an issue with Chrome on my Ubuntu system where it only displays a blank white screen and opens in a small window. Additionally, I can’t seem to use my keyboard while Chrome is running. Does anyone have suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

I’ve been having this really weird issue with Google Chrome on my Ubuntu system, and it’s driving me a little nuts. Here’s the deal: whenever I launch Chrome, I just get this blank white screen. No error messages, no tabs, nothing. It’s just there staring back at me like a ghost. To make things even stranger, the window itself opens up in this tiny size that feels like it’s stuck in a corner of my screen. I can’t resize it or anything.

As if that wasn’t frustrating enough, I’ve noticed that I can’t use my keyboard when Chrome is running. It’s like it completely hijacks my input or something, and all I can do is click around with my mouse. But clicking doesn’t really help because the dang screen is just blank! I tried restarting my computer, thinking that might shake things loose, but no luck. And I don’t think I’ve changed any settings or installed any new extensions that could’ve caused this.

I remember seeing a recent update to Chrome, but I don’t know if that’s part of the problem or not. I’ve been using Firefox as a backup, but I really prefer Chrome for most things, especially since I have a ton of bookmarks and things set up there. I tried reinstalling Chrome too, thinking maybe I could fix whatever was broken, but that didn’t make any difference. It just keeps haunting me with that empty white box.

I’ve searched around a bit online, checking forums and support threads, but it seems like a lot of people have different issues with Chrome on Ubuntu, and none of the solutions I’ve found have worked for me. I really don’t want to ditch Chrome since I’ve grown used to all its features, but at this point, I’m running out of ideas.

Has anyone else run into this issue or have any suggestions? I’d really appreciate any help. Thanks!

      Chrome Issue on Ubuntu

Wow, that sounds really frustrating! I totally get how annoying it is when something just doesn’t work like it should. Here are a few things you can try to fix that weird blank screen in Chrome:

      • Try launching Chrome without any extensions: You can do this by opening the terminal and typing google-chrome --disable-extensions. Maybe one of those extensions is causing the problem.
      • Clear the cache: Sometimes, the cache can mess things up. You can do it by running google-chrome --user-data-dir /tmp/chrome. This will start Chrome with a fresh profile.
      • Update your graphics drivers: A blank screen could be a graphics issue. Check if your drivers are up to date.
      • Reinstall Chrome: You mentioned you did this, but make sure to completely remove it first by using sudo apt-get remove --purge google-chrome-stable before reinstalling.
      • Check for system updates: Run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade in the terminal to make sure everything on your system is up to date.

If these don’t help, you might want to check if there are any Chrome flags you could toggle or reset. Just type chrome://flags in the address bar (if it shows up).

Also, if it started after an update, you could try rolling back to an earlier version of Chrome. I read somewhere that sometimes new updates can cause issues unexpectedly.

I hope one of these suggestions helps you get rid of that ghostly blank screen! Good luck!

      Google Chrome Issue on Ubuntu

It sounds like you’re experiencing a frustrating issue with Google Chrome on your Ubuntu system, which could potentially be related to graphics rendering or a corrupted user profile. First, try launching Chrome with the `–disable-gpu` flag from the terminal. Open a terminal and type: google-chrome --disable-gpu. This command forces Chrome to run without GPU acceleration, which can sometimes resolve graphical glitches. Additionally, consider checking for hardware acceleration settings within Chrome, as disabling these features can sometimes improve stability. If you’re still facing the blank screen, you might want to reset your Chrome profile by renaming the Chrome folder. You can do this by navigating to ~/.config/google-chrome in your terminal and renaming the folder to something like google-chrome-backup. Then, restart Chrome to create a new profile folder.

If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it might be worthwhile to check for any potential conflicts from other software. Sometimes, window managers or desktop environments can interfere with how applications are displayed. Ensure your Ubuntu system is fully updated, particularly video drivers, which can impact browser performance. You can also try launching Chrome in a new user session to see if the issue is profile-specific. Finally, if you suspect that the recent update caused this problem, consider downgrading Chrome to a previous version until a fix is available. Look for `.deb` packages on the official Chrome site or check trusted repositories to find an earlier release.
