What method can I use to change every instance of a specific block type in Minecraft to another type throughout my world?

anonymous user

I’ve been working on this massive build in Minecraft, and things are starting to get a bit messy. I’ve used a specific block type extensively, and now I’m realizing that it’s not quite right for the aesthetic I’m going for. It’s that dreaded moment when you step back and see how off it all looks! So, I’ve been thinking about changing every instance of that block across my entire world.

You know how it is – you get deep into a project and then suddenly, you’re staring at walls made of blocks that just ruin the vibe. I’ve been using Spruce Planks as a base for quite a bit, and while I love them, I’ve now decided I want to switch to Dark Oak Wood for a more rustic feel. But there’s just one problem: I’ve scattered those Spruce Planks everywhere – in my house, the bridge I built, and even random paths leading to my other builds.

I imagine going through and replacing each and every one manually would take forever. I mean, I could spend hours, if not days, just replacing blocks, and I’m way too impatient for that! So, I was wondering if there’s a way to change all of them at once? I’ve heard a few murmurs about using commands or maybe some cool mods, but I’m totally new to that stuff.

Is there a command I can use that would allow me to replace all the Spruce Planks with Dark Oak Wood in one go? Or do I need some fancy tool or mod for that? I really want to avoid messing around with each block individually. Maybe you guys have some tips or tricks that you’ve used in your own worlds? Would really appreciate any help you can give so I can get my build looking the way I want it without losing my sanity! Thanks a bunch!

To efficiently replace all instances of Spruce Planks with Dark Oak Wood across your Minecraft world, you can utilize the /fill command, which allows you to replace blocks in a specified area. First, you’ll need to determine the coordinates of the region you want to modify. You can do this by using the /tp command to teleport to the coordinates or checking them while standing in the desired location. Once you have the coordinates for two opposite corners of your build area, you can execute the following command:

      /fill minecraft:dark_oak_planks replace minecraft:spruce_planks

Make sure to replace and with the actual coordinates of your selected area. The replace part of the command specifies that you want to change only the Spruce Planks into Dark Oak Wood, leaving any other blocks intact. If you’re playing in survival mode or don’t have access to commands, consider using a mod like WorldEdit, which provides powerful tools for block manipulation, making your life significantly easier. This way, you can transform your build’s aesthetic without spending ages replacing blocks manually!

      Replacing Spruce Planks in Minecraft

Totally feel you on the struggle! It’s super frustrating when you realize your build isn’t matching your vision. Good news though – you can actually replace blocks using commands, and it’s way easier than swapping them out one by one!

      Using Commands

If you have cheats enabled in your Minecraft world, you can use the /fill command to replace all your Spruce Planks with Dark Oak Wood in one go. Just follow this format:

      /fill minecraft:dark_oak_planks replace minecraft:spruce_planks

      Here’s how it works:

      1. Find the Coordinates: You’ll need to figure out the coordinates for the corners of the area you want to change. You can do this by pressing F3 on PC to see your current coordinates.
      2. Replace it: Plug in those numbers into the command where the and are. This defines the area you want to fill.
      3. Run the Command: Hit Enter, and bam! All your Spruce Planks should be replaced with Dark Oak Wood!

      Using Mods

If you aren’t comfortable with commands or want more options, there are some mods out there like WorldEdit that can help you with bulk block changes too. Just a heads up though, you’ll have to install Minecraft Forge or Fabric first, which might seem a bit tricky but is doable!

Hope this helps you whip your build into shape without pulling your hair out! Good luck with your build – can’t wait to see it when it’s all decked out in Dark Oak Wood!
